Abstract

"Engaging the World Beyond the Ivied Walls: A Few Lessons Not Learned in School"

Engagement with the public, policy makers, and the press is important if engineers and scientists are to contribute their skills effectively to meet societal challenges. How to do so is something that few receive much preparation for. This talk will recount experiences and lessons learned in the process of stepping out from the laboratory into public-facing leadership roles in energy and sustainability, and hopefully encourage others to consider similar opportunities.
