As a loyal alumnus of Missouri S&T and a past member of the Chemical Engineering Industrial Advisory Council, Philip Ling has invested in the future of the university for many years. Through his diverse and distinguished career in the petrochemicals, oil and gas sectors, he has raised the university's profile, championed the close alignment between industry and academia, and underscored the practical, industrial application of technical know-how and expertise.
Phil graduated from Missouri S&T in 1992 and joined Lyondell Petrchemicals as a process engineer at their Channelview, TX plant. In 2001, Phil joined Shell. Over a twenty-two year career in the industry, Phil has held roles in process and production engineering, economics and scheduling, crude oil supply, business development, commodities trading, and most recently landed a senior role in Shell's Acquisitions & Divestments (A&D) group. While at Shell, Phil has worked in London, New Orleans, and Houston.
Phil received an MBA with a concentration on Finnace in 1999. This cemented his passion for utilizing his technical know-how and problem solving skills in conjunction with his business/commercial acumen honed in business school.
Phil has generously supported the Chemical Engineering department phonathons, student organizations, like AIChE and Omega Chi Epsilon, and the Alumni Annual Fund. He has been active for many years as a member on the Chemical Engineering Industrial Advisory Council.
Phil calls Houston home - but is proud alumni of the international student community at Missouri S&T, having grown up in Malaysia. Rolla was his first port of call in the US, and the memories that Phil has of his first experiences in the US are indelibly and fondly tied to Missouri S&T and Rolla.
