JOHN W. BRODHACKER
BS ChE 1944, MSM
After graduating from the Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy, John received a commission in the U.S. Navy, where he served as Engineer Officer, Destroyer Escort and Destroyer, and as Executive Officer Destroyer Escort, serving in WWII and the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, he worked for Commercial Solvents Corporation in Terre Haute, Indiana and The Electric Auto-Lite Company in Toledo, Ohio. He joined Exide Corporation in Cleveland, Ohio in 1956 and became Vice President, Engineering and Director of Technology. In 1979, John was named Director of Process Engineering at Exide Corporation and later became Director of Technology and Administration, a position he held until he retired in 1982. Over the course of his career, John has been granted five U.S. Patents and is the author of several SAE Technical Publications. He is the past Chairperson for the SAE Storage Battery Committee and Technical Committee of the Battery Council International. He and his wife Mary now reside in Bloomington, Indiana. John was inducted into the Academy in 1997.
