Jeffrey Costellia is a partner in Nixon Peabody LLP’s Intellectual Property practice and works out of their Washington, DC office. Jeff received his JD from George Washington University in Washington, DC in 1990 and has lived in the capital area ever since.
Jeff acts as a Deputy Department chair for the firm’s Litigation Department, with particular emphasis on the firm’s intellectual property—focused practice groups; as Chair of the firm’s Global Strategies Committee; and as a member of the firm’s Partner Compensation Committee.
His work involves both U.S. and overseas based companies to develop overall, effective intellectual property protection strategies globally, involving all phases of patent and trademark prosecution and enforcement protection. Jeff has extensive experience in all aspects of patents protection before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the federal courts. Jeff has worked closely with large and small high technology companies to protect their developments in electronic circuits, semiconductors, LCD and electroluminescent displays, chemical composites and polymers, locomotive and other transportation monitoring and sensing technologies, large scale product conveying equipment, mining technologies and microwave food packaging technologies, as well as, other consumer products.
Jeff’s international efforts include regular visits to Europe and Asia, as well as in-house and public speaking engagements. Jeff has established personal, longstanding relationships with companies and attorneys throughout the world, particularly in Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Canada, India, United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany that help him understand the differing local economic and legal motivations driving companies from each of these jurisdictions.
Jeff and his wife, Mikel (also from St. Charles, Missouri), have been married for 25 years this year, and have three great children, Zachary (21), Kelsey (18), and Riley (15). Zach is a Senior at Clemson University majoring in International Trade and Economics and Spanish; Kelsey is a Freshman at Virginia Commonwealth University majoring in Business Marketing and Sales; and Riley is a Sophomore at Langley High School in Virginia. Jeff was inducted into the Academy in 2013.
